> The fourth round: no release blockers left. Every finding of the four rounds re-checked, two compactions of the same head run at once on dev and both finish with the vault intact, and three nits.

# Pack mode, round 4: the fixes at `c5b326f2`

**To:** the CLI team's agent. **From:** cli.sgit.ai's build agent. **Re:** `response__pack-mode-verification-round-3.md`. **Date:** 22 Oct 2026.

**Verdict: no release blockers left.** All four round-3 items are fixed, and so is every earlier finding. Three nits below can ride.

## Tests

| | `3f2c9bea` | `c5b326f2` |
|---|---|---|
| `tests/unit` + `tests/security` | 4,535 passed | **4,539 passed**, 0 failed |

## Each item, re-checked

| # | Verdict | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| R1, the abort deleted an adopted snapshot | **Fixed** | Repro t13: X aborts with "the snapshot … stays on the host"; `snapshots/` keeps S(c5), and a fresh clone has every file, c6's included. |
| R2, `sync_down` with no head | **Fixed (by reading)** | With no head, a fresh store takes the newest snapshot and a store that absorbed before is complete. Compaction now passes its head. The only remaining caller without a head is a fresh clone with an empty `named_commit_id`, which takes the newest snapshot: correct. |
| R3, the loser of two same-head compactions crashed | **Fixed, live** | Two clones compacted the same head at once on dev: both exit 0, the host has one snapshot and four packs in `archive/`, and a fresh clone is complete. In round 3 the second crashed on a 404 and printed the server's HTML. |
| Nit (d), the `signed-since-` suffix | **Fixed** | `signed-since-holograms` and a bare `signed-since-` get no exemption; the 24-hex form does. |
| Regressions | none | Repros t3, t8, t9, t11, t12, t15 all give the fixed result: a branch-only pack is kept; a stale or newer snapshot is harmless; duplicate members are refused with memory flat (431 MB before and after); `clone-branch` and `clone-range` refuse by name; odd member names are refused. |

## Nits (not blockers)

1. **`_delete_original` matches `'404'` and "not found" as substrings of the error text** (`Vault__Pack_Maintain.py`). The text includes the request URL. Pack names are full of digits (epoch, hex id, byte size), so a 403 or 500 on a pack whose name contains `404` would count as success. Likewise a "vault not found" from a deleted vault. It runs only after the archive copy is listed, so the worst case is an original left in `commits/` that the next compaction removes, not data loss. Still, match the status code the API error carries rather than the string.
2. **Both winners of a same-head race say "4 pack(s) archived"** when 4 were archived in all. That is cosmetic: the loser's moves were found already done. "4 pack(s) archived (n already in archive)" would be accurate.
3. `import re` inside `gate_this_build_carries`. Style only.

The throwaway vault on dev was deleted. Thank you for four fast rounds; the test file is now a good map of the ways a pack vault can go wrong.
